Here is a flower for August. The Gladioli. Known also as a Sword Lily, she was thrown in the old gladiator arenas of Rome and aptly named. She is found naturally in Asia, The Mediterranean and Africa, and Oh how we love her here in the UK for the summertime.

In Europe during the sixteenth century, a mashed gladioli root would help to bring out those annoying splinters and in The Bible The Lilies of the Field were attributed to this ‘lily’ beauty. Her symbolism is one of honour, faithfulness and integrity, and she’s a towering and pretty flower too.

What a lovely evening last night with Dave Collins. Dave shared some special words and brought our wonderful messages and we had a lovely evening with him! Thank you so much Dave!! Nerina chaired with her usual grace and we heard beautiful prayers and readings from the family. Tea, coffee, baked goods and healing were on hand as always. Thank you to all who helped with all aspects of the gathering.

Prayer of the week.

Let us pray for those who marched against hate, and racism, and against all those causing dissention in our land.

Calendar up next.

Have a beautiful week as we experience another glimpse of true summer!

We had such a lovely gathering last night on zoom. Thank you as always for readings and prayers everyone, and just your wonderful company. Healing was on hand afterwards as always.

Coffee morning is coming up on the 17th August 10am – 1pm at Chawton village hall.

Dave Collins is with us Sunday in Chawton. See you then!!

Please continue to pray for each other.

There never seems to be a shortage of these fellas around. The grey squirrel. Even during the summer I have seen so many young ones on my walks with the dogs, because of course they have two litters of kittens per year, one in springtime and another in the summer.

He gets a bad rap as he will infuriate gardeners with his ‘resourceful’ ways, but he is of course a survivor, coming to England in the 19th century when he was first introduced as a specialty to stately homes, and he completely made himself welcome, increasing in great numbers. Hailing originally from The Americas he carries a virus that has eliminated most of our native red squirrels except for in the Northern parts and Scotland.

His symbolism is one quite obviously of that resourcefulness, preparation and yet playfulness…Work hard. Play hard!

We had our ‘In House gathering last night in Chawton. What a special night! The energy of Spirit was so high as we listened to beautiful readings and prayers and sang some of our favourite hymns.

Rob gave an inspired address on Freewill- our greatest gift for the journey, and then we encountered Spirit coming especially close so that many in and out of the body had an opportunity to learn as Rob guided us through events that were occurring. It was a very special evening indeed felt by all. Thank you Steve for Chairing our evening so well with your usual good humour.

Healing always completes our evening. Thank you Healers. Tea and coffee with biscuits were on hand, and Carole did not disappoint with her cake, yet another recipe!! Thank you Julie on music, and those who set up and break down the evening.

Prayer of the week.

Please pray for each other in our Church. We all have such different lives, with all kinds of challenges, but we all need prayer to be a Light in this sometimes darkened world.

Calendar up next.
